Sentinel Wheat
A new milling wheat (ASW classification) that is ideally suited to irrigation or the higher rainfall areas of Victoria and NSW. This mid to long season variety is acid soil tolerant as well as being resistant to the current strains of stem, stripe and leaf rust.
Yitpi Wheat
It is the only Prime Hard (APH) winter wheat available for early sowings (i.e. early April to mid May) in Southern NSW. Later maturity and winter growth habit makes Wedgetail suitable for early winter grazing. Acidic soil tolerant and good grain size.
With the shortage of affordable dual purpose oat varieties this season Wedgetail wheat becomes an attractive alternative - as it is a winter wheat the variety can be sown early, grazed and then taken through to harvest. But also becoming very popular with dairyfarmers who see it as a better option with limited water than any of the sub and rye pasture mixes. Has the ability to recover from heavy grazing before being locked up for silage or hay.
Catalina Wheat
Reliable main season AH variety with high and stable yield potential. Excellent grain size and low screenings in tight finishes. Moderate Resistant to stem rust, Excellent CCN and good Yellow Leaf Spot resistance. Catalina is particularly suited to production in medium rainfall regions of South Australia and Victoria.
Jandaroi Durum Wheat
High yielding quick maturity durum wheat. Erect semi dwarf plant type with strong straw strength. Grain quality is similar to EGA Bellaroi and superior to Wollaroi. Adapted to most durum producing regions.
Hindmarsh Feed Barley
Hindmarsh is broadly adapted to barley growing areas of south-eastern Australia. The variety is best suited to low to medium rainfall environments (325-450mm) where it has demonstrated higher yield potential than any other current commercial feed or malting type variety, across a range of seasonal conditions (including drier years). CCN Resistant. Excellent grain plumpness, superior to Schooner. Higher average hectolitre weights than any other feed barley. Limited amount of seed available.
Buloke Malting Variety
Broadly adaptable, this new early to mid season malting variety is best suited to the low and medium rainfall (325mm+) districts of southern Australia. High yielding alternative to Schooner, Sloop, Sloop Vic, Sloop SA and Flagship in these areas with 5 to 10% yield advantage over all these varieties.
Baudin Malting Variety
High yielding semi-dwarf malting barley (all states) with strong straw, large grain size, good head retention and excellent standing ability. It is very suitable to direct drilling/thrash farming systems with its short straw. Now readily sought after by Maltsters.
Possum Milling Oat
Dwarf milling oat with higher protein to replace Echidna by having better milling quality and fewer screenings. Improved stem rust, leaf rust & septoria resistance compared to Echidna. Yield never fails to impress - even in these past two years !
Kaspa Field Peas
Exceptionally high yielding semi-leafless, late flowering dun type field pea. Excellent shatter pod resistance combined with good lodging resistance assists in easier harvesting. Limited amount of seed available.
Nura Faba Beans
Suited to low, medium and high rainfall areas of SA, Victoria and southern NSW especially all areas where there is a high risk of Ascochyta and Chocolate spot. Shorter than Fiesta and Farah. Has improved stem strength and is less inclined to lodge.
GRAINTRUST varieties available at Superior Seed Co
Young Wheat
Young is an early to mid maturing hard wheat (AH), with effective resistance to Stem and Leaf rusts and Yellow Leaf Spot for wheat on wheat plantings. Young is the highest yielding CCN resistant wheat in the Mallee within NVT long term trials. It has good acid soil tolerance and black point resistance.
Yenda Soft Wheat
An awned Australian Soft in Victoria and Southern NSW, adapted for production in medium to high rainfall environments or irrigation where yield potential is high. Yenda is the highest yielding milling wheat in South West NSW within NVT long term trials. Effective resistance to Stem and Leaf rusts and Yellow Leaf Spot. Moderate to large grain size and low screenings.
WARATAH varieties available at Superior Seed Co.
Tulla Feed Barley
Two row, semi dwarf, exceptionally high yielding feed barley combining good straw strength, large grain size, very high test weight and reliable disease resistance. Tulla is an excellent choice for main season sowing (early to mid June) especially on acidic soils (ph 4.5 to 5.5 CaCl2). Tulla has a prostrate growing habit with rapid ground cover providing strong competition to weeds. It is very suitable to direct drilling/thrash farming systems with its short strong straw.
Jackie Triticale
A reduced awned, dual purpose variety with resistance to the three rusts. CCN Resistant. Good straw strength with excellent grain recovery after grazing. Has very wide sowing window from mid March to mid June.
Speedee Triticale
High yielding variety very suitable for later (late June onwards) sowings in higher rainfall areas allowing opportunity for second knockdown of weeds. Moderately susceptible to stripe rust. Not CCN resistant. Limited amount of seed available.
New Waratah Varieties available in 2008
Waratah has released four new dual purpose varieties including Tobruk and Endeavour Triticale as well as Mannus Oats and Urambi Feed Barley. Only limited amounts of seed are available this year of each variety.

STOP PRESS !
Please note that we now wholesalers of AGT varieties that are processed at Superior Seed Co. including Ventura, Ellison, Carinya and Correll wheats. So instead of ordering these varieties out of the AGT Office at Dubbo, you can now place your order direct with us which is certainly going to be simpler.
In future Superior Seed Co. will take responsibility for its own production of AGT varieties that it intends to process and market throughout Southern NSW and Victoria - a move that will hopefully see considerable cost savings and ultimately cheaper seed.
Possibly the biggest advantage will be that we will can now set the prices for those AGT varieties that we market. This especially applies to bulk which will now be significantly cheaper than previously, as we attempt to make seed more affordable - especially for the popular varieties like Ventura.
Ventura Wheat
Fast becoming a popular variety Ventura is a hard white grained, white chaffed, fully awned spring wheat for main season sowing. Has very good rust resistance and disease tolerance. It is a medium height, semi-dwarf wheat with strong straw strength.
Carinya Wheat
Main season AH variety (Vic and NSW) spring wheat with maturity similar to Janz. Good test weight and attractive milling characteristics. Carinya is being released to replace Janz. It is slightly shorter than Janz with improved stripe, stem and leaf rust resistance.
Ellison Wheat
Ellison, an APH variety (NSW) is a mid-season wheat with an awned head and white chaff. Ellison is a hard wheat with large grain size and good test weight. Ellison is resistant to the current field strains of stem and leaf rust and is moderately resistant to stripe rust as well as a moderate resistance to yellow spot.
Correll Wheat
Mid-season AH wheat (Victoria) with broad adaptation to the southern environment. Good stripe rust resistance, as well as CCN resistant. The variety has similar height, maturity, straw strength, boron toxity tolerance and coleoptile length to Yitpi and is an ideal replacement for that variety.
New AGT Varieties available in 2009
AGT Seeds have released some exciting new varieties, all of which will be available from Superior Seed Co in 2009. These include Axe, Merinda and Livingston Wheats, while Triticale varieties include Jaywick and Hawkeye.
